1983 saw the anime Nine 2: Koibito Sengen special release based on the manga Nine by Mitsuru Adachi released in 1978. Gisaburo Sugii was the director. Mitsuru Adachi began working on it after finishing Hiatari Ryoukou and Itsumo Misora. Hiroaki Serizawa wrote a soundtrack for the anime. Like the manga, the anime is filmed as a romance.
